Raincity Grill

Today was the annual Vancouver Sun Run. We decided to have breakfast right in the heart of it at Raincity Grill. I prefer eating to running any day of the year, that goes without saying, but it was fun eating while watching others running.

Raincity Grill is another noted Vancouver restaurant that prides itself on using local ingredients and food purveyors. Their door proclaims them to be “Vancouver’s First 100 Mile Menu”. Service here is “on”. Once our selections were made, delivered to our table were some complimentary, delightful mini-pastries – Lemon Cranberry Scones and fresh Croissants with strawberry jam – a bonus that ups the ‘extra special’ quotient.

I ordered the Smoked Salmon with Poached Eggs on Brioche, they arrived looking like giant pillows of love – seriously, I just wanted to rub my cheek against them. The accompanying salad with shallots and capers complimented the creamy, briny dish perfectly. My friend, who is partial to Bennys believing they are the benchmark of a good kitchen, ordered the Dungeness Crab Benedict.

For dessert (yes, dessert at breakfast is extremely civilized), we shared the Spiced Merridale Cider Soup which came with caramelized apples, vanilla-cardamom crème and little butter cookies. Make sure you get a little bit of each in every spoonful – poifect.
