Slickity Jim’s Chat ’n’ Chew (CLOSED)

UPDATE (11/12/09): Slickety Jim’s is now a part of Vancouver history due to a massive fire which completely destroyed the restaurant. RIP.
-----------------------------
Slickity Jim’s is well-known on the breakfast circuit. What this means is lineups are usual on weekends. We showed up early for a Sunday (9:00 a.m.) and were seated immediately, however, there was a bit of delay in having our order taken. This gave us lots of time to peruse the menu which has entertainment value unto itself. Cleverly written descriptions of the menu items prompted small chuckles.

Today, we were in a bit of a hurry and our server assured us our order would come out quickly. I appreciated her reaction to our pressure - no attitude, just understanding. And gratefully, she was correct, and our order did come up tout de suite. Meanwhile, this gave us time to take in the surroundings. The decor is quirky, what I called ‘grandma’s attic on acid’.

I had the Revolution Eggs – scrambled eggs, roasted tomatoes, asiago cheese, and ham on corn bread. My dining partner had the Chorizo and Roasted Garlic Benny which came with a generous dozen pieces of roasted garlic. The prices were reasonable, under $10 each.

This restaurant is temporarily closed due to fire. The news last week (April 20, 2010) indicated they are rebuilding in a new location (Main/King Edward area)and may reopen in a few months.

The new location is on the west side of Main Street between 18th and 19th avenue. They're opening any day. I will look for another review, and maybe you'll have more time to linger over breakfast.

(I'm not affiliated with Slicks, just a fan of their work!)
