The Fish House in Stanley Park

Mother’s Day! Today I celebrated this occasion with who else?! My Mom. Her two passions are nature and photography so we enjoyed the morning walking around and through Stanley Park camera in hand. I call my Mom “the bird whisperer”, she seems to have a real connection with birds. And true to form as we sat at Beaver Lake in the middle of the park, a beautiful red-winged black bird came and landed right on her foot and looked at her! We laughed in disbelief.

To relax after our 3-hour walk, the perfect choice for brunch was The Fish House in Stanley Park. We had such a great time! We were offered the best seat on the patio enjoying the sunshine that was so kind to visit us today. Our server was positively charming. There was a special brunch menu for Mother’s Day. My Mom is known for ordering Caesar Salad every time she goes to a restaurant, so she was very happy that The Fish House offered an excellent version. Her other favourite food is oysters, and the Oysters Motoyaki flavoured with wasabi mayo, pickled ginger and black sesame were amazing. My Salmon Carpaccio and Shrimp and Pesto Omelette also were hommage to the seafood focus of the menu.

For dessert, we wanted to “just taste” the Ginger Cookie Mascarpone Cheesecake with Pineapple. Arriving at the table looking spectacular, we each took one bite and with eyes wide we looked at each other and started laughing and laughing. We knew in an instant that there was no way a drop of this dessert was going to get left on the plate – it was incredible!

I credit The Fish House for offering one last special touch. Each mother was invited to take home a choice of a potted flower – my Mom chose the begonia. I’m sure it will be planted with care amongst her extensive existing flower garden. Thanks Mom for a wonderful day!
