Gastown is changing (not a newsflash I realize). In eras gone by, the only draw that ever got me to Gastown was the Town Pump. In more recent years, quality restaurants, hipster clothing shops and other boutique businesses have moved in, turning Gastown into a true destination.

One of these new restaurants is the Pourhouse. Many rave about it - mostly regarding its swank speakeasy decor and related acumen as a beverage purveyor. I guess the name of the establishment is a clue, right? Not to worry, the food deserves praise as well. The menus are meat-centric, but, luckily, my veggie friend I invited along had some options. My Fried Egg Sandwich on brioche with cheese and bacon came with delicious hashed browned potatoes – grated potato and onion grilled to crispy brown. I suppose it, too, could have easily been made veggie with the removal of the bacon. But a life without pig? Nah.
