Simplicity rules at this little crêperie and coffeehaus. Run by a husband-and-wife team, it feels as though you’ve walked into their little country cottage, but in the heart of the Cambie Village.
When my veggie friend suggested we have breakfast today, I chose Trixi’s because of its multitude of vegetarian-friendly options. Crêpes are divided into sweet or savoury offerings. I had my eye on the peanut butter and nutella crêpe, but my need for salt ruled. Instead I had the number 23 – ham, tomato, mushroom and swiss. Simply prepared, simply presented. Salt depletion avoided successfully.

I used to say “there’s nowhere to eat breakfast in Vancouver”. Until one day, I decided to challenge that idea, myself, and the city of Vancouver to a breakfast adventure. Each weekend (almost), I search out a new place to eat breakfast. This is what I have come across so far...

Choppers Diner (CLOSED AGAIN)
UPDATE (09/25/11): I haven’t seen with my own eyes, but rumour has it that they are permanently closed again. Sigh.
-----------------------------------
They’re back! Same owners. Same menu. Same great food. NEW location. Decorated in biker black, this space has a homier feel than the last – a rec room vibe. The fab front patio is an added bonus. I am only guessing that it’s much more modest size might mean much more modest rent. Which, I am hoping, means this time they are here to stay.
Even with the ever-so-small price increases, these are incredibly valued breakfasts. Note: Cash only. My English Breakfast came with 2 eggs, 3 sausages, garlicky roasted potatoes, 2 slices of whole wheat toast, parmesan grilled tomatoes and baked beans – all for $7.50. Be sure to ask for some of their homemade jam. I noticed that we ordered the exact same thing the first time we went, unintentionally. I guess old habits do die hard.
“Psst, hey, you folks lining up at Bon’s – over here.”
2545 Nanaimo Street
Breakfast hours: Tuesday to Friday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Saturday/Sunday: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
