Tapenade Bistro (Steveston)

In honour of my recent birthday, I was treated to a lovely brunch by a very special person – my aunt. Because she lives in Richmond, I wanted to take the opportunity to breakfast in charming Steveston. Although the Tapenade Bistro is located on the tourist trail, do not let the location fool you, the food is quality.

For those of you who know me, you know I would never pass up a menu item called "The Piggy” – a bean ragout with pork belly confit, poached eggs and hollandaise. But even more intriguing was the item called “The Piggy Royale”. The menu said “ask your server about the Royale”. So I did. The above with duck confit? She said every time someone ordered it, it made the chef very happy. Wow, duck confit and making someone else happy? Uh, yes, please. Upon first bite, I had one of those moments where I quiver with delight. In fact, I loved every bite from first to last. My aunt’s Bacon and Gruyere Frittata with caramelized onions was also delicious. We ended the meal on a perfect note sharing the Sticky Toffee Pudding.

Afterwards, we strolled the shops around the village. A wonderful time!
